- This part replaces the frequently broken plastic "steam" nipple on the thermostat housing. Because it is metal instead of plastic, we recommend that a small amount of an appropriate sealant be used on the threads before installation. A light application of silicone grease at the hose attachment point will ease installation of the hose onto the nipple. A fresh expansion tank hose is also recommended to prevent possible leaks where the new connector joins to the expansion hose.
