Sales up 50% for Hyundai's Santa Fe

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama LLC reported strong sales for the Santa Fe in September as numbers for the crossover rose 50 percent, according to reports released by the Korean automaker Thursday.
The company sold 7,010 Santa Fes in September versus the 4,676 sold in September 2008. Year-to-date sales also improved 2 percent rising to 58,067 from 56,629 reported in 2009. This is one of the best months of 2009 for the SUV as it had previously struggled to grapple with the decrease in demand for larger vehicles.
Meanwhile, sales for the Alabama-made Sonata struggled, falling 8 percent to 7,898 from 8,629 in September 2008. Year-to-date, sales for the sedan fell 3.9 percent to 93,575 from 97,442 this time in 2008.
Sales for the entire Hyundai line rose 27 percent.
