The ignition parts function is to burn the air-fuel mixture by igniting it at the right time. The ignition systems have changed over time and so they have the mechanism and the comprising ignition parts of it.

The most reliable and often used system is the battery-operated ignition system. The ignition parts of this system comprise of a single soil, a large battery, and electronic components like capacitor and inductor, and a distributor. The battery powers the coil, which step-ups the voltage (increases the voltage) to a certain value after which the distributor provides it to the correct spark plug at the right time igniting the air-fuel mixture of that particular cylinder.

Modern ignition parts include mechanically timed ignition, electronic ignition and digitally electronic ignition. In modern engines, most of them are four-stroke which majorly use mechanically-timed system. However the major drawback of this system is presence of points (A mechanical object that conducts current from the coil to the engine) which are liable to mechanical failure and require tuning every week or once in two week before eventually changing it. The worse the condition is of the point, the more ineffective combustion occurs. In electronic ignition parts the point part is replaced by a sensor and electric circuitry.

The problem that occurs with the ignition parts is the rusting of the point, or the battery not providing with enough power or the ignition timing not being right. The battery should be replaced in case of the low battery; however a lot of times the rust on plugs result in improper connection hence the spark from the coil is not enough to start the engine. The driver, if not experienced keeps on igniting it which sometimes do result in starting of the car but most of the times result in draining the battery. So if your car doesn’t start in the morning, it’s probably time you check your points.
